Many personal exhibitions were organized in Odessa, Kiev and Vancouver.
Oleksandr is member of the National Union of Ukrainian Artists and his name is included in the ‘Bénézit’ – l’Encyclopédie Mondiale des Arts (1991).
Alexander Melnikov, originally of Russian descent, is a painter of bold, endearing figurative works that belie the usual concepts of portraiture and herald stark originality.
To be witness to a Melnikov is to be emotionally moved by the pathos of his haunting figures. One curator at an exhibition in New York City once remarked:
“For me, [Melnikov] is overwhelmingly soulful and fascinated with mystical folk tales, poetry, literature and the music of the spirit world. The human condition – the pain of existence and the beauty of transformation [is understood by] this master of technique to such an extent that he is able to make his paintings look as if he has captured a natural, spontaneous and private moment.”
